AUG 31 · CINEMANIA
Run Lola Run
A film by Tom Twyker
w/ Franke Potente and Moritz Bleibtreau

Rated R
1hr 20min

Including a deep-dive exploration with filmmaker Scott Garen into the universe of this cinematic masterwork -- 80-minutes of pure, kinetic energy in a story told three times to challenge our perception of time, free will, chance and chaos.

Lola is a dazzling, pulse-pounding, super-cool barrage of speed and imagination - with dynamic camerawork, inventive animations and furious editing to create a cinematic experience that is truly one-of-a-kind. It is the epitome of independent filmmaking at its best.

If you saw it 25 years-ago, come experience it again in a 4K restoration on the big screen with big sound –- and if you never saw it, there’s no option:) …but definitely check out the trailer!

After the film, we’ll kick back in the event space for a CineMania - inspired discussion and analysis of the brilliant camerawork, cutting, score, time-warping, and leaps of narrative imagination that Tom Twyker employed to tell the story of a young woman’s race through the streets of Berlin to rescue her boyfriend from his demise.

"Lola won dozens of major awards, including one of the most revealing - the hard-won audience award at Sundance when it premiered. This is one of those rare gems that dazzles the senses, touches the heart, tickles the brain – and blows your mind."    —Scott Garen

Synopsis: Lola gets a frantic call from her boyfriend, Manni who lost 100,000 Deutch Marks that belonged to a dangerous thug. Lola has 20 minutes to come up with the money and meet Manni to prevent his demise. This starts a desperate race against time, as Lola sprints to her father’s bank to obtain the money – racing through the streets of Berlin – encountering a myriad of characters and situations along-the-way, challenging her to make small and large choices that impact the outcome of her race against time. The film rewinds Lola’s race three times, as different incidents and her own choices lead to three different finales – each an outcome of her free-will choices, her destiny and the chaos of life.
