The Carpenter's Son is a horror-drama film about a family, including the teenage Jesus ("the Boy"), hiding in Roman-era Egypt, who become targeted by supernatural forces after he begins to discover mysterious powers. His father, the Carpenter (Joseph), is disturbed by these abilities and a new, mischievous "Stranger" who tempts the Boy to use them, leading to conflict within the family. As the Boy's powers grow, the family finds themselves in increasing danger, battling both natural and supernatural horrors.
Thanks to its great performances, the historical drama takes on deeply psychological hues, making for a surprisingly fun take on the familiar, despite its occasionally conservative imagery.
